Career and Guidance Counselor at Malmö Magistratsgymnasium

We are looking for an engaged career and guidance counselor for Malmö Magistratsgymnasium, which opens in the autumn term of 2025. As a career and guidance counselor (SYV) with us, you will guide and inform visitors, students, and prospective students about study and career opportunities. Responsibilities

The career and guidance counselor works with both general and individual guidance. General guidance encompasses all activities within the school aimed at providing students with knowledge and skills to support their decision-making process regarding future study and career choices. Individual guidance involves personal counseling through guidance conversations, both individually and in groups. These conversations provide each student the opportunity to reflect on themselves in relation to various future paths.

Main Responsibilities:

• Document in documentation and record-keeping systems according to applicable routines.
• Establish and/or adjust materials for study plans.
• Support students during high school choices, school transfers, re-selection, and planning for further studies or other activities.
• Guide students individually and in groups.
• Inform students and guardians individually and in groups.
• Inform and collaborate with school staff.
• Participate in the introduction of new students.
• Contribute to the professional development of the career and guidance counselor role.
• Participate in networking meetings for career and guidance counselors.
• Collaborate with guardians, school staff, and internal and external authorities and schools.
• Participate in study and student conferences.
• Contribute to the marketing of the organization, for example through open houses and high school fairs.
• Arrange internships in connection with study interruptions, through Praktik Malmö, and follow up on internships within Ung i sommar.
• Collaborate with Samstart.
• Supervise candidates from the career and guidance counselor education.
• Participate in the school's systematic quality and development work.

As a SYV, you will be part of the Student Health Team at the school and contribute your expertise to drive the work with students forward in their development. You will coordinate the school's APL in collaboration with other relevant staff. In dialogue with colleagues, we develop guidance together and contribute to creating a learning and sustainable organization. Through reflection and creativity, we enhance the quality of our work.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Degree in career and guidance counseling (180 credits).
• Previous experience working with children and youth.
• Good digital competence.
• Good knowledge of the governing documents of upper secondary school.
• Very good Swedish in speech and writing.

Desirable:

• Experience working within upper secondary school introduction programs or the municipal activity responsibility.
• Previous work as a career and guidance counselor in upper secondary school.
• Good experience collaborating with other authorities and being part of various networks.

As a person, you are flexible and solution-oriented. You have a good ability to create new ideas, perspectives, insights, and a wide range of solutions to problems, and you show an understanding of how a question can be part of a larger context. To succeed in this role, you need to have good collaboration skills and a relational approach characterized by good interaction with both students and colleagues. You are structured and can plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively.

About the Workplace

Malmö Magistratsgymnasium is a smaller school unit in central Malmö for students studying individually adapted programs (IMA) or vocational introduction (IMY). A few places will also be available for students from other upper secondary schools who temporarily need a different placement. At Malmö Magistratsgymnasium, the individual student is at the center, and great importance is placed on contributing to future confidence, independence, and motivation.
